Kristen Wiig makes her screenwriting debut in the new feature comedy "Bridesmaids," but Wiig wasn't joking when she told Jon Stewart she actually had no idea how to write a movie when producer Judd Apatow said he'd fun the film. How did Wiig deal? She bought a how-to manual for wannabe screenwriters.
We reported last week that 37-year-old Kristen Wiig has only been at this performing thing for the last decade. A source who knows a childhood friend of Wiig from her native Rochester, New York confirmed to me that she was never in high school plays, never in the chorus or any kind of drama club -- all Wiig's success happened after she did some improv work in her late twenties.

Then, after landing a part on "SNL" in 2006, Wiig quickly shot to fame for her uncannily silly characters. It took half a decade for the comedienne to try her hand at writing, but, when she finally got her chance, Kristen reveals she had no clue how.
Wiig told Jon Stewart this week that after she worked on "Knocked Up" with producer Judd Apatow, he encouraged her to write a film, and, um, when a major Hollywood producer tells a girl she should write a film, of course she's going to write it. So Kristen Wiig revealed to Jon Stewart her first step with her writing partner, Annie Mumulo: "We bought like, a 'How to write a screenplay" book--"

At that, Jon Stewart busted out laughing as Kristen Wiig continued, "I'm not kidding, we really did. "I went to [my writing partner's] house for the first day and she bought like chips and carrots and we had our book and we're like" (excitedly rubs palms together).
Kristen Wiig could excitedly rubbing her palms together with some cash in between them if "Bridesmaids" performs how it's expected to at the box office. One critic said Kristen Wiig has established a "feminist flag in the male-dominated raunch-com genre." Jon Stewart informed Wiig that the film had majorly high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes earlier this week.
